Chennai

The posting

key requirement, as the employer wrote it

Location - Chennai (Preferred) | Mumbai | Bangalore | Hyderabad | Gurgaon | Noida The Electrical Modeller - BIM, Data Center will be responsible for detailed electrical layout planning, SLD interpretation/development, cable routing design, and preparation of BOQs and specifications for large-scale Data Centers (multi-megawatt facilities).

This role requires strong expertise in AutoCAD, electrical systems, and spatial coordination, ensuring all designs are technically accurate, fully coordinated, and constructible.

You will bridge the gap between electrical engineering intent (SLDs) and real-world execution (layouts, routing, installation feasibility).

Key Responsibilities 1.

Electrical SLDs & Space Planning & Layout Design (CORE ROLE) a.

Substation & HT System Layout Develop layouts for: Data Center Campus from Sub-station to Data Halls Transformers, RMUs, HT panels Plan - Equipment placement, maintenance clearances, access paths Design – From SLD to cable/bus-duct routing (trenches, bus bar, ducts, shafts, overhead systems) for IT load, Mechanical Power, House power, and ELV Cables.) b.

HT → MV System Layout Convert SLD into detailed layouts for: HT switchgear Transformers MV panels Define: Cable routing paths and segregation Equipment positioning and alignment c.

MV → LV System Layout Develop layouts for: MV panels, LV panels, MDBs UPS systems and battery rooms Plan: Cable paths, risers, trenches, shafts Ensure: Efficient routing and space optimization d.

Low Voltage System Planning for IT Load, Mechanical Power and House load.

Layout design for: LV panels, PCCs, MCCs UPS skids, PDUs, RPPs Bus ducts / busways Plan: Busbar routing, clearances, and supports Cable tray routing and segregation 2.

Cable Routing & Pathway Design (VERY IMPORTANT) Design routing for: HT / MV / LV cables Control and auxiliary cables Plan: Trenches, shafts, trays, and underground routing Ensure: Segregation (redundancy paths, A/B feeds) Minimal congestion and constructability 3.

Single Line Diagrams (SLD) & System Understanding Develop and/or interpret: Electrical SLDs for data center power systems Align: SLD with physical layouts and routing Ensure: Consistency between design intent and execution 4.

BOQ & Technical Documentation Prepare: BOQs for electrical systems Equipment schedules (HT, MV, LV, UPS, Generators, Chillers, Pumps etc.) Develop: Technical specifications for: Electrical equipment Cables (HT/MV/LV) Bus ducts / busways Support: Tender documentation and procurement 5.

Earthing & Lightning Protection Design (CRITICAL ADDITION) a.

Campus Earthing System Plan: Overall earthing grid for data center campus Earth pit locations and grid layout Ensure: Compliance with IS / IEEE standards Integration with substations and DG areas b.

Building Earthing System Design: Internal earthing system for: Electrical rooms Data halls UPS and battery rooms Coordinate: Equipment earthing and bonding Clean earth / technical earth systems 6.

Coordination & Clash-Free Design Coordinate with: Mechanical (HVAC), Architecture, Structural teams Resolve: Space conflicts and routing clashes Participate in: Coordination reviews and BIM integration 7.

Drawing Production & Quality Prepare: Layout drawings, routing plans, sections Maintain: High-quality AutoCAD standards Ensure: Clear, coordinated, and construction-ready drawings 8.

Constructability & Site Support Ensure: Installation feasibility Maintenance access Support: Site teams with clarifications Shop drawing reviews Mandatory Skills & Competencies - 1.

Technical Skills (NON-NEGOTIABLE) Expert in: AutoCAD (2D – mandatory) Strong understanding of: HT / MV / LV electrical systems Substation layouts and power distribution Ability to: Convert SLD into real layouts 2.

Engineering & Documentation Skills Experience in: BOQ preparation Technical specifications Knowledge of: Earthing and lightning protection systems 3.

Domain Experience Experience in: Data Centers / Industrial / Large infrastructure projects 4.

Coordination Skills Strong multidisciplinary coordination capability Understanding of: Space planning and clash resolution 5.

Communication Good communication skills Ability to: Understand engineering intent Coordinate with design teams

Qualifications: Diploma / BE in Electrical Engineering Good to Have: Experience in Data Center projects Basic knowledge of: Revit / BIM coordination Familiarity with: Uptime / TIA-942 standards
