The posting

key requirement, as the employer wrote it

The Opportunity You'll be designing with more human behavior data than almost anywhere else on the planet.

At Nielsen, we measure how billions of people watch, listen, and buy across the globe.

As a Senior Product Designer II, you'll help build the design vision for major product lines and platforms, turning this huge, complex dataset into products that media professionals, advertisers, and agencies rely on for critical business decisions.

You'll work on problems where neither the question nor the answer is defined yet.

What should cross-media measurement look like three years from now?

How do we bring a fragmented product suite into one coherent experience?

Which initiatives move the business, and which ones should we stop?

If you love shaping product direction, solving the hardest design problems, and raising the bar for the people around you, this role is for you.

What You'll Do Build the design vision for major product lines Set the direction for entire products or platforms, not just features.

Your work connects user needs to business outcomes and shapes design standards across Nielsen.

Solve the problems others struggle with Lead core architectural changes, redesigns of critical flows, and high-priority initiatives where craft has to hold up under pressure.

Work at the tactical and strategic level at the same time, across several projects.

Set research strategy for ambiguous problems Decide which questions need answering and which methods fit, then guide the team through the work.

Use behavioral data and research to shape product direction and fill gaps in what partners know.

Influence the roadmap Negotiate trade-offs between Product, Engineering, and Design.

Build data-backed cases for design-led initiatives that change priorities at the leadership level, and say so clearly when a project is high-effort but low-outcome.

Evolve our design system Bring new patterns and help make governance decisions for the design system used across Nielsen's global products.

Know when to go beyond the system, and be able to explain why.

Grow the team around you Mentor designers, run workshops and design jams, and advocate for your teammates' growth.

Improve how design works with other functions, from handoffs to sprint planning.

What You Bring You think in systems and business outcomes You understand the P&L and the competitive landscape, and you can explain how a design decision affects retention, LTV, conversion, or differentiation.

You look for root causes: when the same mistakes keep happening, you fix the process that's causing them.

You thrive in strategic ambiguity You're comfortable when both the problem and the solution are undefined.

You run discovery that defines new product directions, and you create frameworks that help others work through uncertainty.

You can make high-stakes calls with incomplete information.

Your craft is a reference point Your work is detailed, handles edge cases thoroughly, and is used as an example for the team.

You use high-quality prototypes and clear storytelling to get executives and partners behind an idea.

You lead without a title You act as a design leader with or without formal authority.

You build alignment among stakeholders with competing priorities and take ownership of outcomes beyond your own team.

You've designed for complexity at scale Your portfolio shows dashboards, enterprise tools, or analytics platforms where you owned the direction, not just the screens.

You can talk about sampling, statistical significance, and data pipelines with data scientists and engineers.

You keep learning and help others learn You follow emerging technologies like AI and what they mean for design, you're open to contrarian views, and you encourage experimentation and learning from failure. 7+ years of experience Including significant time leading design for complex products.

Experience with data-heavy or enterprise products is a strong plus.

Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or equivalent professional experience (formal education not required).

Strong portfolio Show us how you shaped direction on ambiguous problems, the trade-offs you negotiated, and the measurable business impact of your work.

Proficiency in design tools Expert in Figma and prototyping tools.

You build advanced prototypes that feel like the real product.
